I’m so excited to share my Book of the Month for November: The Other Tenant by Lesley Kara! If you're a fan of gripping mysteries and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, this one is sure to intrigue you. I’ve been itching to read a good mystery, and when I won this paperback in a competition, run by the lovely @nothing.beats.a.good.book on instagram I knew it was a sign to make it my November pick.
Title: The Other Tenant
Author: Lesley kara
Genre: Thriller Mystery
Publisher: Penguin
Date Published: 2024
Book Length: 340
Format: Paperback I won in a competition
Star Rating: I loved it and highly recommend
About the Book:
The Other Tenant follows Marlow, a woman who has lived in some pretty unusual places. When she takes a job as a live-in property guardian, she ends up moving into a location she never thought she’d return to – an old Victorian school now being renovated into luxury apartments. From the moment she arrives, something feels off. The eerie, empty corridors of the school trigger old, dark memories, and things only get worse when one of the other tenants suddenly disappears.
Marlow quickly becomes suspicious of the other guardians living there. What do they know about the missing woman, and can she trust any of them? She’s determined to find the truth, but as the secrets of the place and its people unravel, her own past begins to catch up with her. It’s the perfect setup for a page-turning mystery, and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds.
Why I Chose It:
There’s something about a thriller set in a creepy, atmospheric location that hooks me every time. And the fact that Marlow is not only dealing with a missing person but also confronting her own past adds a layer of psychological tension that I think will make this read especially intense. Plus, I’ve heard great things about Lesley Kara’s writing, so I have high hopes for The Other Tenant.
My Thoughts: The Other Tenant by Lesley Kara is an engaging thriller mystery that kept me captivated from start to finish. I appreciated how the story was told from different perspectives, with each chapter focusing on a new character. This narrative style not only provided insight into each individual but also added depth to the overall plot. The chapters were often very short, which heightened the tension and made the pacing feel urgent.
The premise of the book was refreshingly unique, suggesting that anyone and everyone could be involved in the unfolding mystery. This uncertainty kept me on my toes, as I tried to piece together the clues alongside the characters. The numerous twists and turns throughout the story had me eagerly turning the pages, never quite sure what to expect next.
In conclusion, The Other Tenant was a fantastic thriller that offered a fresh take on the genre. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gripping read that keeps you guessing until the very end. Lesley Kara's skilful storytelling and intriguing character dynamics made this a standout novel that I won't soon forget.
